Look at today's scholar... What's an artist to do!

Look at today's scholar. . .
So much ground to cover!
Compare today's scholar to the scholar of.. 1000 years ago. . .
So many more authors to research - so much more information to take in!!!
I tip my hat to them -
and stick a feather in thiers -
simultaniously.
but seriously, have you ever thought of that?
well now you have..
give our scholars credit, they deserve it.. and I lump myself into this ball now these days -
as I'm on this readig rampage - seeking to tackle all the biggies - the seminal authors throughout the ages - the heavy hitters on down the course of the line of the ages...
back in Plato's day, dudes had to just read, well, Plato, Socrates, and a handful of others.. - now it's like - that's just scratching post man - a springboard! - you're just skratching tthe surface hoss! - dig in! - - - - and what will it be like 500 years from now - throw another long line of 'must read' books (chuck in songs too - and films - heck, art across the board)into the batch, add spices, stir around.. - thousands (hm, with the rapid spread of knowledge: millions?) of 'crucial' writers, thinkers that those living then will have to have knotched onto belt if the would call themselves 'well read', 'learned', or 'an authority' on this, that. the next...
seeing as there's so much now to cover - is it fair to keep lumping on more and more - when does it just become too much to bear - like, a point where, even if you popped out the womb and took straightway up book and read clear through to till laying back in coffin 80 years hence - you still haven't covered all the 'required reading' for your 'field' of that day.. maybe this is, like, a sign that the end is nie(?)... or do we just start ditching key philosophers and ideas and books - because there's just too much - to perhaps discover them anew - and laud the contemporary that brings it up? maybe we're doing this already to small degrees..

And consider artists.. How much is there left to do?
If a painter sits down in front of a blank canvas -
thinks hard to him/herself "I'm going to do something sooooo totally original."
good luck..
- they're like "I'm just going to schmear painting on in this totally wild way."
uuuuuuh, been done.. - "well then I'm going to hurl tenis balls covered in paint at the canvas.." uuuh, that's been done too.. - "then I'll just drip and spatter paint on it" - done.. "make a whole bunch of really straight lines" done "spirals then!" done - - - "then I'll.. - then I'll just like, stick trash to it" - done.. "put lights on it!!!" - done.. "leave it blank!!!" - done.. pulling at their hair "Aaaaarrrrrgh!"
is this a sign too of the end - ideas all running out? - granted; some innovative stuff is happening with film - - - but will that ball of yarn start running thin eventually - then what!
What's an artist to do!!!
